What could the next El Niño mean for the UK, and how prepared are we for the risks?

We’ve previously talked about the National Emergency Briefing and the showings of the film across the country. At this time we still have one more showing planned in Uttlesford (at Stansted) in the Events section of this website.  Now the National Emergency Briefing team are kicking off a series of ‘live’ events on particular topics of interest, and the first was on  Monday 12th October 2026.

In the first episode of NEBLIVE, Professors Paul Behrens, Hayley Fowler and Mike Berners-Lee explore the science behind El Niño, its potential implications for the UK, and what it could mean in a rapidly changing climate.

NEBLIVE is a new series from the National Emergency Briefing, bringing leading scientists and experts directly to the public to explore the latest evidence on the climate and nature crises, the risks we face and what we can do about them. The aim is simple: to make the science accessible, understandable and impossible to ignore.
