Weekly collections for small electrical items

In Uttlesford, small electrical items are collected for recycling weekly, along with your wheeled bin. To recycle small electrical items, simply:

  • remove any batteries or lightbulbs
  • leave any plugs or cables attached
  • put your unwanted electrical items in a standard-size carrier bag (no black bin bags)

Place the bag on top of your bin by 7am on your collection day.

There are also drop-off points for small electricals at Saffron Walden Library and Great Dunmow Library.

Donate your items instead

If your electrical items are in working condition, you can donate them for reuse. Find out more about ways to donate your items to good local causes on Love Essex.

Recycling batteries

Hidden and loose batteries – such as those in vapes, toys or electric toothbrushes – are major causes of fires in bin lorries. Please do not include them in your normal waste or recycling bin. You can put out electric toothbrushes and shavers for collection as part of this small electricals recycling scheme.

Vapes, loose batteries, energy saving lightbulbs and a number of other items should be recycled at dedicated collection points in shops, supermarkets or local recycling centres.

More information about what small electricals can be collected at the kerbside is available on the Uttlesford District Council website: Small electrical items – Uttlesford District Council.
It also has information on what cannot be collected and how those items should be recycled, including various recycling points or requesting a bulky electrical item collection.
