On the 26th June, there was an event in New Zealand that parallels to a degree own National Emergency Briefing, it was the Reality of Everything Symposium. It took a slightly different approach in that it presented to the public, rather than to MPs as we did here, and then asked the public to raise awareness of the need for urgent action by emailing their MPs.

Like the NE Briefing, it gathered 10 experts together to present an unvarnished picture of the current state of the country, and the world, along with thoughts of what needs to be done about it.

The website for the Reality of Everything can be found here.  The whole thing is really well put together and highly informative, but if limited for time I’d suggest you watch Dr Mike Joy’s presentation on The Polycrisis, which was the first of the presentation on that day. It provides a really clear overview of the situation we find ourselves in, and why energy transition and planting trees, though important, will not be enough. Then pick anything else that interests you.
