Project Description

A Community Garden and informal play area for young children.

EAGLES are working in partnership with Elsenham Parish Council to create a community garden and play space in a small area of land within one of the new housing developments in Elsenham. It has twin aims of being a safe and pleasant place to play and also a place of enhanced biodiversity. To this end we have areas of meadow with play paths for children to run through, short cut areas for picnicking and three planted no dig beds.

Project Status Information

During our first season, we have secured grant funding from the Parish Council and the District Council and have plans to install water by connecting to the mains, we have created three no-dig beds filled with plants grown and donated by the community, installed a memorial bench and are developing a community of enthusiastic volunteers to maintain the area.

Our plans for the future include more native planting, installing a living willow dome for children to run in and out of and provide a shaded seating area during the hot summer months. We will also conduct a biodiversity survey so we can hopefully prove we are having a positive impact on biodiversity. We also hope to create an impressive bug hotel for our vital invertebrates as well as ensuring we provide as many mini-habitats as the small space will allow.
