We are a community group working together to help Stansted Mountfitchet become more sustainable. Set up with the encouragement and support of the Parish Council, we want to contribute to the fight against climate change. Our aim is to do what we can at a local level to improve the environment, promote biodiversity, and help local households to reduce energy use. We hope to support the Uttlesford District Council’s target of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2030. The Environment Group look for opportunities to protect local wildlife and help improve the quality of our environment. – The Energy Saving Group support local residents and organisations to reduce energy usage/bills as well as their carbon output.

A ‘citizen science’ monitoring program of the river Stort, a designated chalk stream, and Stansted Brook, a tributary of the Stort, within Stansted Mountfitchet over an initial period of 12 months from April 2026.

The project will –

  • monitor the health of the waterways in Stansted;
  • build a significant body of data for each waterway;
  • increase local awareness of the importance of streams and rivers;
  • use the gathered data to identify opportunities for water improvements and river restoration.
